PREPARATION AND TRAVEL TIPS

By following these guidelines, you can ensure a smooth and enjoyable start to your Caribbean sailing adventure with us.

1. Packing List:

Luggage: Please use soft-sided luggage or duffel bags due to limited space on the boat. We recommend traveling with carry-on luggage only. Pack essentials in your handbag in case of delayed checked luggage.

Documents: Ensure your passport and visa (if required) are valid for at least 6 months post-return. Carry travel insurance covering medical emergencies and sailing activities. Print or download important documents like air tickets and insurance on your phone. 

Currency and Payments: Both Euros and US Dollars are accepted in St. Maarten/St. Martin. Credit cards are widely accepted, but taxis typically require cash. Please bring the cash you will need for your entire stay as some businesses can only accept cash. For gratuities, 10-15% is standard if not included in the bill.

Clothing: Pack lightweight, breathable clothing, including sun-protective wear. Bring smart-casual outfits for dining out and a light jacket for cooler evenings.

Footwear: Non-marking boat shoes, water shoes, and sandals are recommended. Avoid high heels.

Sun Protection: High SPF sunscreen, wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and rash guards are essential. 

Medications and Toiletries: Bring any personal medications and basic toiletries.

Miscellaneous: Pack a waterproof dry bag, refillable water bottle, insect repellent, sailing gloves (for sailors), and earplugs for light sleepers.

Electrical Items: St. Maarten uses Type E or F outlets; check if you need an adapter. Onboard power is 12 volts. 

2. Onboard “Victoria SLV” Provided Items:

Beddings, two towels, snorkeling gear (own mask recommended), fishing equipment, adult life jackets, and harnesses. *You need to bring suitable life jackets for children.

3. Travel Advice:

Mobile Phones: Check international services with your provider. Keep in touch via WhatsApp.

 Wi-Fi: Available at restaurants. Limited onboard access through Starlink.

Fishing: Equipment provided. No license needed but beware of Ciguatera. Consult with locals before consuming caught fish. 

4. Boarding Procedures at our Base (St. Maarten Yacht Club, Simpson Bay, Dutch side):

Arrival: Fly to Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM). WhatsApp us upon customs clearance and take a taxi to St. Maarten Yacht Club (5 minutes away). Meet us at the club’s restaurant for dinghy transfer to “Victoria SLV”.

Embarkation (your first booking day from 1pm): Welcome and safety orientation, sailing briefing, dinner ashore, and team introduction. Disembarkation (your last booking day from 10am to 11am).

Where do you operate?

Our home base is in St. Maarten, a stunning Caribbean Island. From here, we offer a variety of sailing itineraries around the best Caribbean destinations, including St. Barth, Anguilla, and more.

What is the Victoria SLV yacht like?

Victoria SLV is a modern, fully equipped DUFOUR 43 Grand Large yacht with top-tier amenities. She is designed to provide maximum comfort for both adults and children, with plenty of space for relaxation, water activities, and learning about sailing.

Who can participate in the sailing tours?

Our tours are open to families, groups of friends, and solo travelers. No prior sailing experience is required—our experienced instructor will guide you every step of the way, making it accessible for beginners and those looking to advance their skills.

Do I need to know how to sail?

Not at all! We cater to all skill levels. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced sailor, our instructor will provide the right level of instruction to make sure everyone enjoys the journey and learns new skills.

Are children allowed on board?

Yes, up to 10 years old. Our yacht is equipped with child-friendly amenities, and we offer fun, engaging activities to keep younger sailors entertained. Parents or guardians must accompany children during the tour.

What should I bring on a sailing trip?

We recommend bringing:

  • Comfortable, light clothing
  • Swimwear and a towel
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat
  • Any personal medications
  • A camera to capture memories
  • Water shoes or non-marking shoes for the deck
    All other essentials, including snorkeling gear and safety equipment, are provided on board.

What kind of activities can we expect during the trip?

Our trips offer a mix of adventure and relaxation. You can expect:

  • Sailing instruction and hands-on experience
  • Snorkeling, swimming, and paddleboarding
  • Visits to secluded beaches and island exploration
  • Gourmet meals on board and dining ashore at local restaurants
  • Sunbathing and relaxing on deck

How long are the sailing trips?

We offer flexible itineraries, from day charters to full 7-day voyages. Day trip starts from 9am till sunset includes lunch and journey to the best swimming and snorkeling bays. Our most popular trips include 7-day itineraries that explore islands like St. Barth, Anguilla, and other Caribbean gems.

What if the weather is bad?

Safety is our top priority. If the weather conditions are unsafe for sailing, we may adjust the itinerary or reschedule the trip. In extreme cases, we reserve the right to cancel the tour. If we cancel, you will be refunded or offered an alternative date.

Can I customize my sailing itinerary?

Is food provided on board?

Yes, we offer gourmet meals prepared with fresh, local ingredients. Please inform us in advance of any dietary restrictions or preferences, and we will accommodate them.

How do I book a sailing trip?

Booking is easy! Simply contact us through our website, email, or phone. A 50% deposit is required to secure your reservation, with full payment due the embarkation on day trip and 30 days before the departure of 7-day trip.

What is your cancellation policy?

  • Cancellations made more than 60 days before departure: full refund minus a 5% processing fee.
  • Cancellations made between 30 and 60 days before departure: 50% refund.
  • Cancellations within 30 days of departure: no refund.

Do I need insurance?

We recommend purchasing travel insurance that covers cancellations, medical expenses, and personal liability. We are not responsible for personal injuries or loss of personal belongings during the trip.

Can I organize a private charter or corporate event?

Yes! We offer private charters for special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, and corporate events. Contact us directly to discuss your event, and we’ll tailor the experience to fit your group.

What measures do you take for safety?

Safety is our priority. Our yacht is equipped with all necessary safety gear, including life jackets, emergency equipment, and first aid kits. Our crew members are trained in CPR and emergency procedures.

What is the minimum age for children?

There is no strict minimum age, but parents or guardians must accompany young children. Please inform us of any special needs or requirements for younger passengers when booking.

How do I join the sailing courses?

We offer certified sailing courses for those looking to deepen their sailing skills. Whether you want to learn the basics or get certified, our instructor will guide you through the process. Contact us to find out more about course availability and pricing.

What currencies are accepted?

We accept CAD, USD or EURO for all payments. Payments can be made via credit card or bank transfer.
